Subject: Husky Hike

Hello Folks,

We had another strange, unpredictable winter up here in Big Bear Lake, but we did manage to get two days of dog sledding in despite the overall lack of snow and we had a great time running the dogs.

Our Spring/Summer activity season is getting off to a late start because our weather has continued to be very erratic and unpredictable. We got a light dusting of snow this past weekend and the storm we had a few weeks ago dumped over a foot of snow on the valley, which unfortunately melted the very next day leaving everything a wet, muddy mess.

We are planning our first hike of the season for Saturday, May 17th. We are going to hike along the Santa Ana River Bed and the meeting time will be 9:00AM. This will be an easy hike with plenty of shade and hopefully running water along the trail. We will hike at a leisurely pace and we don't have a set distance to hike and we will just go with the flow.

If you are interested in attending this hike, you must reply to this e-mail letting me know and you will then be sent directions. This hike is open to all breeds of dogs and if you want to come hiking with us and you don't own a dog, you are still welcome. We always have extras and you can borrow one of our dogs if you wish.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As always, you will need an National Forest Adventure Pass.

Dress in layers as the weather can be a bit chilly in the morning and warm up as the sun comes out. Sunglasses, and a hat are recommended and sunscreen is a must. The sun is very strong and unforgiving at this altitude and you can burn within minutes.

Wear proper shoes/hiking boots that are comfortable and have adequate ankle support and good tread on the soles.

** No flip-flops or open toed shoes!!**

Believe it or not, we actually did have someone show up for a hike last summer wearing flip flops and the penalty for an act of such utter stupidity and lack of common sense and good judgment was immediate removal from the club. This may sound harsh, but someone who goes through their closet and picks out a pair of flip flops to wear hiking in the mountains is a danger and a hazard to everyone. You turn your back on them for one minute and the next thing you know, they are running with scissors, feeding chocolate to the dogs, and playing with matches. hahaha.

Bring plenty of fresh water for your dog(s) and yourself.

Bring something to snack on and to keep your energy level up.

All dogs must be kept on a leash and under control at all times.

Do not bring a dog that is aggressive and or vicious and we expect every dog has been properly socialized within reason.
