"Chiropractic is . . .
. . . a health care discipline which emphasizes the inherent
recuperative power of the body to heal itself without drugs or surgery.
The practice of Chiropractic focuses on the relationship between
structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the
nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and
restoration of health. In addition, Doctors of Chiropractic
recognize the value and responsibility of working in cooperation with
other health care providers when in the best interest of the
patient."
Chiropractic
is a science, art & philosophy
The
Science:
It is scientific
fact that the nervous system controls the function of every cell, tissue,
organ & system of your body.
Chiropractic is the
science of locating areas of spinal malfunction called the Vertebral
Subluxation Complex, and the art of correcting them.
The
Art:
After a thorough
examination (possibly including x-rays, MRI, lab tests & medical
specialist referral) and review of your health history I will recommend a
specific care program.
The
Philosophy:
Your body must heal
itself. The role of
Chiropractic is to reduce interference to your inborn healing ability by
restoring healthy joint motion and nerve function.
My aim is to help
you heal quickly. This allows
you to get on with your life.
The
Treatment:
This may include
“Adjustments”, Controlled and directed pressure to the vertebrae and
other joints to restore a more normal position and motion.
When the spinal function improves then the nervous system function
(health) can improve too.
The adjustment may
be a gentle trust by hand, or quick, gentle thrust with an instrument
called an Activator or Arthrostim.
The treatment may
also require additional adjunctive physiotherapy.
Heat, Ice, Traction and electro-stimulation may also be applied.
In some cases lifestyle changes will be recommended, such as
improved nutrition and specific exercises.
Acupuncture and
Herbology may be used to rebalance the body.
Treatment is
tailored to the specific needs of adults, infants, pregnant women,
children and seniors.
